As the name suggests Wildwood Kin is a family affair- sisters Emillie (guitar) and Beth (bouzouki/keyboards) Key joined by their cousin Meghann Loney (drums) with all three contributing vocals- and their hypnotic familial three-part harmonies saw the trio scoop the Bob Harris Emerging Artist of the Year Award last summer as well as being asked by Seth Lakeman to collaborate on his album 'Ballads of the Broken Few'- produced by fellow SK alumnus Ethan Johns- and to support him on the subsequent tour. A show at London's Union Chapel sparked a bidding war for the trio, with Sony's newly reactivated Silvertone label the eventual winners.
By this point Wildwood Kin were already at work on 'Turning Tides', recorded at Middle Farm Studios in their native Devon with producer Jamie Evans. Working in the studio allowed them to push the boundaries of their sound- the band describe themselves as much fans of Sigur Ros, Radiohead and Explosions in the Sky as of Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons and the folk roots that informed their early work. The result is a widescreen, anthemic blend of folk harmony, ethereal electronics and shape-shifting pop-Americana. RIYL Ward Thomas, Larkin Poe, First Aid Kit
